BIOGRAPHY | HUGH TURVEY - SOME BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
Inspiration:
-
Hugh's early influence came from Russian
Constructivist concepts (most notably the work of Alexander Rodchenko: "the lens of his camera discovered objects of unusual architecture,
rhythm, and plasticity") and more recently the extensive and
innovative high speed and stroboscopic photographic studies by Dr
Harold E Edgerton which explore the "ingenuity behind the creativity"
and "seeing the unseen".... Not forgetting George (my semiology
lecturer for his wisdom and visual prowess), Gered Mankowitz and artist Elisabeth Arbuckle for
my first camera.

X-RAY | HUGH TURVEY - PHOTOGRAPHER AND ARTIST
Technique | x-ray photography:
- He draws from his art / design / photography experience and work individually and collaboratively in producing photographic imagery. His specialist area of x-ray photography is about 'insight', the 'true nature' and the 'constructed world' around us. We use a complete range of radiographic tools for capturing structure, form and function of the normally banal and ordinary. My work is currently held in private collections in USA and Europe.The images are captured by exposing film with phosphors as x-rays collide with it. The density range of an object dictates the exposure and very fine detail capture medium is used. Sometimes our creative and unique x-ray images require a manual coloring technique to enhance areas of greyscale density variance and composition within the image.
